The ship recently changed managers to 'Fehn Shipping' from 'Kopervik', where she was named FRIFJORD.  She has changed livery but does not yet appear on the fleet list of 'Fehn Shipping'.

Picture
Three days after arriving from Aveiro with logs & wood chippings the ship departed on the afternoon tide.
The 7,700ton DWT vessel again had difficulties manoeuvring in the harbour basin as she did on arrival, see item on 3rd Jun below.  This was surprising as at 108m she is not the longest ship to visit the port recently.  She became cornered along the RNLI pier and needed a line from the pilot tug to pull her away.  Thirty minutes later she passed the south pier and into the Solway as normal.

PictureDERWENT applies some pressure at the bow.

Once in the calm of the harbour basin the vessel appeared to have propulsion problems.
The gallery below follows progress.  An anchor was dropped as a brake in front of the harbour wall.  The pilot tug then helped her turn but the vessel drifted out of position.
With the tide ebbing the 6.8m draught vessel became stuck on a mud bank.

The hold cargo was quickly unloaded and she was on her way to Drogheda on the following tide.

Picture

MOANA appeared another example of a well-maintained Dutch vessel in her unusual maroon livery.

Built in 2009 at 4,500ton DWT she flies the flag of 'AMASUS' ship management.

The well-turned-out crew had already positioned the pilot's rope ladder as she passed the south pier - a brand new piece of equipment - nothing less would have been expected!

LADY ARIANE (Delfzijl) IMO 9760366, 24th Apr 2019
Outbound for Larne, NI.
Picture
Picture
The Dutch owned (Wijnne Barends) vessel looked in fine condition as she set sail on the afternoon tide in hazy sunshine.

Heading out for Belfast on a wet blustery afternoon.
Picture
Picture

It had been the first visit of the 63m, 1,700ton DWT vessel with a cargo of timber from Kyle of Lochalsh.

She was built in 1992 as TORRENT and flies the flag of owners '
EXE Shipping'.  The funnel logo is that of ship managers 'AMASUS'.

Once clear of the harbour entrance the ship hit rougher waters, see left & gallery below.

Two hours after leaving Workington MarineTraffic showed her to be following an erratic path.  Shortly afterwards she headed back to port and docked on the next tide.  It transpired she had problems with the port engine.  She was docked for two days before setting off in calmer conditions to Sharpness for repairs.

MARRY-S (Kampen) IMO 9148178, 14th Mar 2019
A late afternoon arrival from Dublin as the light fades.
Picture
Picture
In the wake of Storm Gareth and with strong westerlies still blowing in the Irish Sea she had passed close to Douglas, IOM to gain shelter during the sailing.

With a cargo of peat moss the fully laden vessel passed the south pier into the harbour basin where she was turned and reversed into the dock.

The Dutch owned & registered vessel bears the logo of 'Sierra Maritime'.
She was built at 89m and 3,500ton DWT as 'ELAN' in 1997.

Twenty four hours later she was unloaded and ready to return to Dublin.

CEG COSMOS (Riga) IMO 8303173, 14th Mar 2019
Inbound from Lochaline, West of Scotland.
Picture
Picture
The timber boat made a smooth approach In blustery conditions.

Once passed the South Pier into calmer waters she unexpectedly drifted towards the North Jetty.  A correction pushed her towards the river and she continued to manoeuvre  towards the dock entrance where she entered bow first.

At 63m & 1100ton DWT, COSMOS is one of the smallest vessels operated by 'Fehn Ship Management'.

SCOT TRADER (Rochester) IMO 9368405, 13th Mar 2019
Inbound from Inverness on the afternoon tide.
Picture
Picture
With the approach of Storm Gareth from the Atlantic the sailing took twice as long as scheduled.

The vessel had sought shelter in Keiss Bay shortly after leaving Inverness.
Off the West of Scotland the island of Colonsay provided a 12hr overnight haven, In the Irish Sea conditions were no easier and the vessel sheltered in Ramsey Bay, IOM before completing the final leg.

The 4,600tn DWT vessel was built in 2008 as PENAFIEL and acquired by 'Scotline' in 2014.

The approach at Workington went smoothly.  Some movement of deck cargo was noticed.  Once in the harbour basin an anchor was dropped to assist manoeuvring towards the dock entrance.

ARKLOW FALCON (Arklow) IMO 9527659, 3rd Mar 2019
Making her approach in a heavy swell and strong southwesterly.
Picture
Picture
The 5,000ton DWT 'F' series vessel made her first visit to Workington with powdered cement from Lisbon.

Her arrival on the morning tide was well-timed to avoid the worst of developing Storm Freya.  Even so, the fully laden vessel pitched and rolled on the approach and as she crossed the bar at the harbour entrance.

FALCON is 1 of 10 'Arklow'  boats in her class built between 2006-11.

So far this year Arklow have made a delivery each month from Portugal.

Unloading into storage silos is a lengthy process, taking up to 4days using dockside pneumatic equipment.

AURORA (Turku) IMO 9255579, 25th Feb 2019
Inbound from Aveiro, Portugal on a bright but misty afternoon.
Picture

With the pilots transferred (photo right courtesy of Ian Cormack) and a line attached, the vessel made its way out of the murk towards the south pier.

The 118m, 7,750ton DWT self-loader is listed as owned by 'Aalto Shipping'.  The funnel logo indicates management by Groningen Shipping, 'SCG'.

Deliveries of timber from Portugal using larger vessels are becoming a regular feature at Workington.  The cargo is used as a biofuel by the local Iggesund paperboard mill.

The gallery shows the approach of the ship and entry to the dock bow first.  Under calm conditions and with a well-controlled approach the pilot had time to enjoy a cuppa on the bridge courtesy of the crew.
SAGASBANK (Delfzijl) IMO 9369655, 19th Feb 2019
A grey morning for the arrival from Aveiro, Portugal.  Seen passing the South Pier below.
Picture
Picture
The 4,500ton DWT vessel was bringing one of a regular delivery of baled wood pulp for the local Iggesund paperboard mill.

The ship bears the funnel logo of 'Pot Shipping' and flies the standard of the 'ESTE' trading organisation.

The bridge area of the 2010-built vessel looked to be maintained in very smart condition.

Once in the harbour basin she attempted to turn in preparation to reverse into the dock, however the bow thrusters appeared to be out of action and she drifted towards the basin wall.  Pilot tug 'Derwent' was needed to nudge her through the dock entrance.

ARKLOW RIVAL (Arklow) IMO 9344514, 5th Feb 2019
Inbound from Lisbon with a full load of powdered cement.
Picture
The 4,900ton DWT vessel was making a second visit to the port on a calm grey winter's morning.
